Frequently asked

From what age does therapy work?

For teenagers (13-17), adapted CBT works well. For children aged 7-12, play therapy plus simplified CBT. Under 7, mostly play therapy with the parents involved.

Is parental consent required?

In Moldova, under 16 — yes. At 16-17 there is flexibility; many therapists work with teenagers on their own agreement, keeping parents informed. Session confidentiality is respected: the therapist discloses only immediate physical danger.

My teenager refuses to come. What do I do?

Forcing it rarely works. What helps: invite them to try just one session with no commitment; let them pick the therapist from a shortlist; address the fear directly — there is nothing strange about going; and start therapy yourself, since your own change can motivate them later.

What do I do if my teenager talks about self-harm?

Immediately: do not react with panic, listen, validate the emotion. Then find a specialist today, not tomorrow. In Moldova: the Child Helpline on 116 111, free, anonymous, 24/7. Do not confiscate their phone or ban their friends — isolation makes it worse.

How long does therapy for teenagers take?

Typically 12-20 sessions for specific problems: anxiety, conflict with parents, bullying. Longer for chronic depression or trauma. Weekly at first, fortnightly once things stabilise.
